Ave had yet another surgery a couple of weeks ago. One of her lumps that we had thought was a fatty tumor got really big really fast over the past year, and the vet encouraged and convinced me to have it removed. So, we finally did. This poor dog has had four surgeries in the past 3 years. As you can see from the pictures, she has quite the incision with 39 staples, which get removed this week. Ave's doing just fine. She's back to normal, begging for every scrap of food that she can, going for walks, and doesn't seem to mind her new fashion statement (it's way better than the cone).
The mass that was removed was malignant, and the vet suspected it was a liposarcoma, a very rare type of cancer. We don't know for sure because I chose not to have a biopsy done, but from what the vet saw and talking with the oncologist, she feels pretty strongly that's what it was. The good news is that she said she got most if not all of it removed; the bad news is that liposarcomas are very aggressive. I'm glad that I don't know for sure, because I think I'd be fretting more than I am. For now we're all happy to have Ave back to her lively sweet self and hope that she stays that way for a while longer.
You can see the mass on Ave's side - it looks small in this picture
Hey guys! Nicole here. So sorry to hear about Ave but we're really happy she recovered quickly and is back to herself. We loved spending time with you and can't wait for the next time. XOXOlo
